They are electric energy generators able to take place of the fixed ones when latter are out of order.
They can be with gasoline or diesel engine, or driven by the tractor P.T.O. through a cardan shaft. In the last case it is necessary to fit a multiplier unit between the tractor and the generator in order to have the synchronous number of revolutions.
As there are 50 Hz of frequency, the synchronous revolutions are:
120 x f 6000
N = ---------------- = ---------------
N poli N poli
If the generator has two poles you will have n=3000 rev./min.; if it has four poles you will have n=1500 rev./min.
Depending on supplied voltage and current, the generator power is worth:
P = V.I: cos ? con cos ? mediamente 0,8 and it is expressed in kw
The V.I. product has a practical value and is expressed in KVA (Kilovoltampere).
As the gearbox has a fixed ratio and when a definite number of revolution is required at the output, it is necessary to adjust the tractor so to assign an established rate to the P.T.O.
